College/IM Sports

There are two different types of intramural (IM) sports at Rice: regular IM and college.  Regular IM sports are leagues where you and your friends from across campus can put together a team to compete against other Rice students.  College sports, however, are what people consider to be the most important aspect of the IM sports program.  Jones fields teams in all sports imaginable to compete against all the other colleges (and the Graduate Student Association) throughout the whole year.  In each sport, the colleges finishing in the top four places receive points (4 points for first place, 3 for second, etc.), and at the end of the year the college with the most points wins the President’s Cup.

As you can well expect, Jones is awesome at intramural sports, and, of course, always finishes near the top President’s Cup standings.  If we’re going to win this year, we must get people to come out and play.  That means EVERYONE.  In order to start your year off right, there are both freshman flag football and powderpuff football right at the beginning of the fall semester, with plenty of other sports to follow throughout the year.  Regardless of your prior athletic background, intramural sports are a great way to meet upperclassmen, relieve stress, and exercise.  As the great Ricky Bobby once said, “If you’re not first, you’re last.” Be first.
