To answer your first question: Yes, you will have a room. In fact, it will probably
look something like the layouts below.
If you want marginally more information on rooms, try the listing on the
Jones Homepage.

| Freshman Corner Double (FCD), beds bunked over desk/dressur to create work cubby.
| |
Standard double, pretty good arrangement. Sorry, TV and couch not included.
|
Although you probably won’t see much of your room your first week here,
Jones has some of the most comfortable rooms on campus. Most freshmen
live in standard doubles, which are approximately 12’ x16’ with two closets
and an entire wall of windows. Freshman corner doubles are smaller, but
the huge closets make up for this fact. A few new students will be put into
suites in the Central part of Jones. These rooms consist of two smaller double
bedrooms that share a common room and bathroom. Most likely you will be
living in a standard double, so plan accordingly. Don’t stress too much though,
because all of the rooms are large enough to accommodate more stuff than
you would believe. The furniture is quaint and can be easily arranged into
useful positions. Lofting your bed over a desk creates a cozy “working cubby”
(If you live in a freshmen corner double, your will probably arrange your beds
like this.) In addition, your friendly Student Maintenance Representative (SMR) will be working hard during O-Week
and into the start of the year to fulfill your room arrangement requests. Your shag-pad, party-pad, or lily pad will be
just as you want it to be. This year’s SMR is Brian Cullum. Use him, abuse him, make him do night-calls, whatever.
He is here to help you, but you might get him to come move your furniture faster if you give him baked goods. The
furniture can be easily arranged to fit sofas, tables, televisions, refrigerators, etc. You probably should contact your
room/suitemates before you arrive so you know what everyone is bringing. Don’t be dumb and put holes in the wall
or windows. You pay for it dearly. There is a towel rack, mirror and shelf in the closet. There’s also plenty of drawer
space in the dresser. Bookshelves, desks, and chairs are provided
and usually this will be enough furniture to hold your stuff. If you
would rather not haul a sofa into your room, don’t worry because
each floor and the first floor of North and South has a well furnished
lobby that can accomidate all of your lounging needs. There is also a
kitchen on every floor for those who want to experiment in their own
culinary arts. Most students like to keep a mini-fridge in their rooms,
but microwaves are not allowed. Stoll’s is a TV/movie/lounge in the
south basement that anyone can use, so you don’t have to worry
about too many electronics. However you want to use it, make you
room your own; after all, you’ll be living there all year.
