While the rooms at Jones aren't the newest, the most historic, or the most rat-infested, they certainly take the cake for comfort. If you're an incoming student, you'll probably be assigned to either a Regular Double or a Freshman Corner Double. Doubles are 14' x 16'. Freshman Corner Doubles are a bit smaller, but the location, the legacy of some previous inhabitants, and the loads of closet space more than make up for the deficiency in size. These rooms are large enough to accommodate more stuff than it sounds. One famous room employed a two-couch stadium set-up along with a refrigerator, two beds, and two desks. There was still room to booty dance on the furniture and throw a football. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU CONTACT YOUR ROOMMATE BEFORE YOUR ARRIVAL so that you don't have duplicates on appliances. You'd hate to end up with two televisions but no telephone.
The furniture is quaint and can be easily arranged into useful positions. Bunking both beds over a desk provides a "working cubby" (although some members of Jones have placed a swivel chair in this location and have created a respectable bachelor pad), and not bunking at all makes for great seating space. With all of this newfound space, it is a good idea to bring a measuring tape to make sure you have enough room for all your stuff. Don't worry about moving all this stuff yourself though. Your friendly Student Maintenance Representative (SMR) will be working hard during O-Week and into the start of the year to fulfill your room arrangement requests. Use him, abuse him, make him do night-calls, whatever. Your shag-pad, party-pad, or lily-pad will be just as you want it to be. Don't forget to bring mounting tape, tacks, and/or putty to put stuff up around the room. There is a towel rack, mirror, and shelf in the closet. There's also plenty of drawer space in the bureau. Bookshelves and desks are provided (all part of the Room and Board payment) and fit the needs of most students.
